Copy photograph of Lieutenant Thomas O. Johnston, 40th Regiment. Johnston was killed at Nukumaru in January 1865. He is shown sitting down with his face turned towards his left. He is wearing a dark tone jacket and waistcoat and light trousers. Johnston has a mosutache and full beard and is holding a cane. The photograph is included on page 31 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
