"Kaihihi Rd."

Production date
1999
Description
Multi-coloured relief print depicting an aerial view of the Kaihihi Road area, Ōkato, Taranaki. The intersection between Kaihihi Road and South Road (State Highway 45) can be seen in the foreground of the print. Kaihihi Road snakes up from the foreground through farmland and veers to the right. The Stony River can be seen emerging from the left and passing under a road bridge. A few houses and buildings dot the landscape. The scene is rendered in blue, green, brown, black, red, white and purple inks. The print is part of Carter's road series for which he would walk along a road with his sketch pads and make drawings recording the shapes and features of the land. The many drawings were then condensed into single artworks that give composite aerial views of his journey.
