A bamboo ruler with a broad oval shaft with a curved, tapered end and a curved handle that is bowed in the centre and has a hole in the end. The front is decorated with hand carved flowers, leaves and a butterfly.
This ruler belonged to Ernest Pridham, the first headmaster of New Plymouth High School (now New Plymouth Boys' High School). See the New Zealand Historic Places Trust Register for information about Pridham Hall, a building at the school named after him. http://www.historic.org.nz/TheRegister/RegisterSearch/RegisterResults.aspx?RID=147
