Copy photograph of Lieutenant Frederic Charles Rowan, 43rd Regiment. Rowan was severely wounded in battle at Te Ngutu o te Manu, South Taranaki, on 7 September 1868. He later became Sub-Inspector in the Armed Constabulary and in 1886 he was appointed the Consul-General for Denmark in Victoria, Australia. Rowan is wearing military uniform with a sword at his left side. He is standing with his right hand resting on the back of an elaborately carved chair. He has a small moustache with short sideburns and beard. The photograph is included on page 29 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
