Copy photograph of Captain Hugh Shaw, 18th Regiment. Shaw was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Nukumaru in New Zealand on 24 January 1865. He is shown from the waist up wearing a jacket with a fob watch. He has a moustache and short beard and is looking off to his right. The photograph is included on page 28 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
