A military button from the 70th (East Surrey) Regiment of Foot, which served in New Zealand between 1863 and 1866. The badge is circular and raised in the centre with two rings around its border. " 70 " is embossed in the centre. The metal of the button is badly corroded and as such the badge is green and rust brown in colour. On the reverse of the badge is a deep groove and a small loop for attaching the button to a uniform. The word " BIRMINGHAM " is just legible on the reverse but other text is unreadable.
