Copy photograph of Sergeant Patrick Sheridan, 2/14th Regiment. Sheridan was born in Ireland and came to New Zealand with the 14th Regiment in 1860. He served in both the Taranaki and Waikato campaigns and was awarded the New Zealand War Medal. He died in Gisborne in 1919. Sheridan is wearing full military uniform leaning against an elaborately decorated pedestal. He has a moustache and full sideburns. The photograph is included on page 26 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".

Patrick stayed in New Zealand and married Catherine Atkinson sister of Sir Harry Atkinson .They lived in Wellington where he became the head of the Lands Dept .The Sheridan family were used by Kathrine Mansfield in 2 of her stories The Garden Party and The First Dance ,His Daughter married John Plimmer’s son Harcus another married sir Harold Carr Judge of the Maori Land Court .He had 3 sons and 4 daughters . He died on the 27th of July 1919 and is berried in Karori cemetery

Thank you this is a photo of my great grandfather till now the only photo I had of him was at the handover if lake Wairarapa .my very ealderly and senile (his daughter burned all the family photos leaving a big hole for her decscendants
