Copy photograph of Colonel Sir James Edward Alexander, 14th Regiment. Alexander is wearing full military uniform and is standing with a sword held in the crook of his left arm. Alexander (1803-85) was a Scottish soldier and author. He retired from active service in 1877 and in 1881 was given the honorary rank of general. The photograph is included on page 24 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
