This trophy was won by Ian Bellringer, a New Plymouth local, in 1949, when he was a member of the Taranaki Poultry and Pigeon Club. This club began in 1890, and members breed a variety of purebred show pigeons. From the early 1900s the club was amalgamated with the Taranaki A&P Association, and the club used their hall for meetings and at their peak ran breed shows in Hawera, Stratford, Inglewood, Opunake and Waitara, as well as in New Plymouth. This trophy was for the Best Young Bird in Show, and was likely to be from a national level competition give the other winners came from various parts of New Zealand.
