Donald Hugh Jonas was a farmer from Onaero, north of Waitara. When World War Two broke out he, like many other young men, enlisted and fought in the Western Desert campaign in Northern Africa. He died from his wounds in 1941, and this kit was sent home to his family in Onaero. Kits like these would have been all many New Zealand families got back from their loved ones killed at war.
