Elva Clouston and Merla Morris pose in the costumes they wore for the "Fluffy Ruffles" ballet which was performed as part of the Opunake Partriotic Concert on 27 May 1940. Their costumes consist of full-skirted dresses with large ruffled collars and shiny ribbon detailing. The girls also have ruffles around their wrists and wear pill-box hats. Elva is posed on a set of low stairs and raises her right arm. Merla holds out the edges of her skirt and curtsies.

Extract from a review in the Opunake Times: " Spring green backless frocks, featuring large neck and arm ruffles were worn by Merla Morris and Elva Clouston in the tap duo, “Fluffy Ruffles.” Gold shoes and jaunty hats completed the ensemble and lavish trimming with gold tinsel ribbon was featured.
