Albert Heal Crozier was born in New Plymouth, to parents who were local - his mother was descended from William John Crozier, who arrived on the William Bryant. Both Albert's parents died when he was young, and in 1914 he enlisted to serve in World War One. In September 1916, he was killed in action at the Somme, and buried in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval. His next of kin was his sister, and she was sent this medal to commemorate his service. Albert also received the 1914-15 Star and the British War Medal.
