Description
An ornate moulded souvenir plate that features a black and white transfer print of the Recreation Grounds in New Plymouth (now Pukekura Park), with a focus on the lake and the mountain view. The plate has a mother-of-pearl and opalescent glaze, and a scalloped edge. " A Present from Taranaki N.Z. " is printed in black ink in elaborate cursive script that curves downward in the upper half of the plate." RECREATION GROUNDS TARANAKI N.Z. " is printed in black ink along the bottom of the transfer image. " BRITANNIA ... PORCELAIN ... WORKS / KARLSBAD / AUSTRIA " is printed in brown ink on the base of the plate. The first line is enclosed on an unfurling banner above a shield form that contains Britannia holding a shield. The last line curves upward beneath the shield.

This plate shows a well-known New Plymouth view, from the lake at the Recreation Grounds (now Pukekura Park) to Mount Taranaki. The plate was produced between 1898, when the Britannia Porcelain Works was opened, and 1908, when the Recreation Grounds were renamed Pukekura Park.
