Dave Julian leads Taranaki Rugby team mascot Ferdinand the Bull ("Ferdie") across the field in front of a packed grandstand at Rugby Park, New Plymouth. Dave appears in the bottom right corner of the photograph leading Ferdie on the bull's left. He is wearing the amber and black overalls that were the uniform of Ferdie's helpers and holds a hat. The Ferdie suit comprises a furry and horned head and a striped fabric body worn by two people who are visible as Ferdie's legs. Part of another helper can be seen leading Ferdie on his right. He holds out his hat towards the crowd.
