Davies, Blanche Gertrude [Gertie]

Description
A collection of papers and an autograph book belonging to Blanche Gertrude Davies (known as Gertie).
The papers mainly relate to her occupation as a nurse. Gertie was born in New Plymouth in 1879, and trained as a nurse in the Auckland Hospital. During her career she spent time nursing in Australia, was the acting matron at Woodside Hospital (the first private hospital in Auckland), and during the 1918 influenza epidemic was the relieving matron at Hāwera Hospital. Later in life she worked as the matron of Auckland and Whangarei Girls' High Schools. She died in 1963 in Auckland.
