Sarah Marsh Plaintiff. And The Taranaki Education Board Defendant. [item]
Production date
1916
Description
Documents pertain to a case filed by an 'aboriginal native' of the Ngati Rahiri Tribe (Marsh) on behalf of the tribe against The Taranaki Education Board. The plaintiff claims in 1860, her tribe owned blocks of land between Tikirangi and Rauotehuia and in 1868, the Government of New Zealand unlawfully issued a crown grant for the land to John Henry Armstrong and then to S.J. Cox. The plaintiff wishes for the land to be declared native land and her case to be referred to the Native Appellant Court. The defendant denies the plaintiff is an 'aboriginal native' of the tribe in question. The case was discontinued by the plaintiff. See also case file #1256.
