Mrs Walter Morrison
Production date
Circa 1859
Description
Hand tinted ambrotype portrait of Mrs Walter Morrison, wife of Walter John Morrison. Mrs Morrison is seated and has one arm resting on a table covered with a patterned table cloth. A vase of flowers also rests on the table. She is wearing a dress with a shawl, a bonnet tied in a large bow underneath her chin and gloves. The majority of the image is hand tinted. The portrait is framed by a gold metal matt and is contained in a plain maroon leather case with no lid. Designs in gold paint decorate the edge of the case. Two hook clasps are mounted on the left hand side of the case. The table cloth and chair that feature in this photograph are very similar to those pictured in the ambrotype portrait of the Reverend Johann Friedrich Riemenschneider (A82.030), which was taken in New Plymouth in the summer of 1859, presumably by Hartley Webster. It is possible this ambrotype was also taken by Hartley Webster at a similar time.
