Arthur Albert Fantham is a well known Hawera name, and he was influential in a number of spheres. He, his wife Mary and their 11 children moved to Hawera in 1881, where they settled on the established farm Egmont View. Arthur had made a name for himself in Canterbury and Waikato as an astute breeder of animals, particularly cattle, and in Hawera he also became an auctioneer. He was also a key player in the formation of the Egmont Farmers Union, and helped to set up an A&P Association. This particular trophy was from the 1886 Egmont A&P Show, where Arthur's breeding prowess saw him cleaning up the opposition!
