A Taranaki District shooting medal. The silver, shield shaped medal is marked " TARANAKI /1867 / W B. Davies " is marked on the front with decorative scrollwork. It has decorative fern designs on the reverse of the suspension bar. The medal is attached to a dark green ribbon with a simple suspension pin on the reverse.

This medal was awarded to William Bolland Davies, of the Volunteers for winning the Taranaki District Shooting competition on 7 March 1867. Along with the medal, presented by the Government, he also collected 12 pounds 10 shillings for his efforts. A report on the competition was published in the Taranaki Herald on 23 March 1867 
Davies also served as a bushranger and as a trooper with the Taranaki Mounted Rifles and took part in the invasion of Parihaka in 1881.
