James Thomas Davis
Description
Studio portrait of James Thomas Davis. Davis is seated and is wearing a suit. One arm is raised in a crooked position, but it is not actually resting against the table that can be seen on the left of the image. The table is covered with a tassled table cloth and several flowers are visible in the frame, presumably from a larger vase of flowers sitting on the table. A curtain is visible on the left of the image. The carpet is patterned. In 1883 Davis won £150 in an Auckland Cup sweepstake on a horse named The Poet and donated his winnings to pay for the construction of The Poet's Bridge in Pukekura Park. In 1891 Davis was found drowned under the bridge.
