Mrs Harvey is wearing a formal dress. She is also wearing earrings and a choker. On the left of the photograph a curtain and another chair are partially visible. The studio carpet is patterned. Mrs Harvey was a passenger on the Plymouth Company ship the Amelia Thompson that arrived in New Plymouth on 3 September 1841.
