Copy photograph of Lieutenant Colonel C. W. Austen of the 14th Regiment, who was killed at Rangiriri pā, Waikato, in November 1863. Austen is standing and is wearing a suit. He has one hand tucked in his trouser pocket. He is standing in front of a chair and next to a pedestal. An elaborately painted backdrop is visible in the background. The photograph is included on page 23 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
