Description
Alfred Brake is known as an inventor and organ builder. He built many church organs throughout New Zealand, including the organ at the Hāwera Methodist Church. He also established the first dairy factory (a cheese factory) in Manutahi, Taranaki, in early 1882, and established the first share-milk co-operative in Taranaki.
The collection consists of material predominantly from Brake's early career as an inventor, at a time when he was inventing and patenting apparatus for siphons. Material includes patents, legal documents, correspondence, letter books and apparatus' designs.
