Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Private George Dore, Wellington Rifles, wounded on 7 September 1868 at the battle of Te Ngutu o te Manu, South Taranaki. Dore is seated at a small table with one arm resting on the table top. Several books are also on the table. Dore lost his arm in the battle and the empty sleeve from his jacket is tucked into his jacket pocket. An elaborately painted studio backdrop, featuring a landscape scene, is visible on the left of the image. The photograph is included on page 19 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
