"Women dancing, Parihaka"
Description
A group of women perform in front of Te Niho o Te Ātiawa at Parihaka. The women wear piupiu and some some wear raukura (white feathers) in their hair. Te Whetu stands to the right of the group. He holds a taiaha and wears a sash adorned with medals and other decorations. Further men, women and children watch the performance from around the marae. Te Niho o Te Ātiawa was the dining room on Pāra Huka marae. Since 1967, the dining room has been used as a sleeping room.
