Copy photograph of Major Charles Heaphy, Auckland Militia. Heaphy won the Victoria Cross for action in February 1864 at Mangapiko River, near Te Awamutu. The photograph is a bust portrait and shows Heaphy dressed in a jacket with his medal pinned to his chest. The photograph is included on page 19 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
