Object Detail


A collection of taonga Māori arranged in a bush setting. The taonga includes: a whale bone heru/comb (A77.182) upper right; a carved wooden waka huia/treasure box (A76.810) centre; a pounamu/greenstone poria kākā/ornament (A76.793) and a composite wood heru/comb (A93.251) in the waka huia; a large pounamu/greenstone hei tiki (A77.294) lower right; a bone poria kākā/ornament (A92.476) resting on the stone; another pounamu/greenstone hei tiki (A77.292) also resting on the stone; and a second carved wooden waka huia (A76.809) upper left. The photograph was taken to be included in a calendar published in 1970 by Ivon Watkins Dow, the agricultural chemicals company.
