Description
A New Zealand Medal awarded to Private Thomas Parsons of the Taranaki Volunteer Militia for his part in the Battle of Waireka on 28 March 1860. The silver medal features a left facing profile of Queen Victoria on the obverse. " VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F.D " is marked around the edge of the profile. A wreath is featured on the reverse with " NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR " marked around the edge of it." THO. PARSONS. PRI. TARAKI, MILTA." is marked on the edge of the medal. The medal is topped by a straight suspension bar ornamented with fern leaf designs. A blue ribbon with a central red stripe is attached to it. " Prt THO Parsons / Taranaki Milta " is handwritten on a label on the reverse of the ribbon.
