Description
An N.Z.A Royal Veteran Cross. The bronze Maltese cross is surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves and surmounted by a Victorian crown. " ROYAL / N.Z.A / VETERAN " is marked in the centre and the medal is accompanied by a suspension bar which originally was attached with a link ring. " Col. Sgt. G. A Adlam " is marked on the reverse. The ribbon which would have accompanied the cross is missing.

This cross was issued to George Albert Adlam, who served with the 43rd Regiment during the Taranaki Wars. Imperial or Colonial veterans of the New Zealand Wars became eligible for this medal when they joined the association, which was known from 1900 as the New Zealand Empire Veterans Association. This type of cross pre-dates the Empire Veterans Association award which were issued between 1900-1910. A third variation of the cross was issued after 1910, when the name of was changed to the King's Empire Veterans Association.
