Description
A Distinguished Flying Cross . The silver flory cross is surmounted by another cross made of propeller blades with a roundel in the centre that is framed by a laurel wreath. The horizontal arms bear wings and a crowned RAF monogram at the centre. The cross is attached to a ribbon featuring diagonal stripes of white and purple via an ornamental bar. The reverse features a royal cypher. The cross is mounted in a presentation case. " D. F. C. " is marked on the lid.

Captain Eliot Millar King earned this Distinguished Flying Cross and also a Croix de Guerre with Silver Star piloting Short seaplanes with the 64th (Naval) Wing based at Port Said, Egypt during World War I. Flying in at least sixty-three sorties, he was involved in bombing, ship escort and submarine search.
