A wafer thin nine carat gold shield shaped medal surmounted and flanked by scrolls. " T.R.V." is marked on the obverse. "Best Shot / for Recruits for / the year 1908-09 / Won by / Private C.E. Pepperell "is marked on the reverse. " 9CT" is marked near the bottom and a small suspension loop at the top.
