Copy photograph of two studio portraits. The photograph on the left depicts Sir George Grey with his orderly Hoani/Hone Ropiha. Grey is seated and has one arm resting on a table that is covered with a patterned tablecloth. Hoani/Hone is standing behind him and has one arm resting against the back of Grey's chair. Both men are wearing suits. The background has been coloured in by hand. The photograph on the right depicts Reverend Richard Taylor and Hoani Wiremu Hipango. Taylor is pictured on the right of the image and is holding a book in one hand. Hoani stands on the left facing Taylor with his eyes downcast. Both men are wearing suits. The background has been coloured in by hand. Hoani was a Whanganui chief converted by Taylor. The photographs are included on page 14 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
