Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Lieutenant Charles Arthur Melchior Hirtzell, New Zealand Militia. Hirtzell is standing next to a chair and is leaning against the chair back. His other hand is in the pocket of his jacket and his legs are crossed at the ankle. His hat is resting on the seat of the chair. A curtain is visible on the left of the image. The photograph is included on page 13 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
