A large crowd of people gathered outside the Kaponga Post Office in August, 1903. The Auckland Weekly News of 10 September 1903 says this was a fancy dress football match outside the then-new post office. The game was a part of the Kaponga Athenaeum Hall Fancy Fair (aka Kaponga Bazaar) on 8 August 1903 (married verse single men).
