Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Lieutenant Hastings, Wellington Rangers, killed at Te Ngutu o te Manu, South Taranaki, on 7 September 1868. Hastings is standing next to a chair and is leaning on a cane. He is wearing a jacket, waistcoat and trousers. A top hat is sitting on the chair. Studio props are visible in the background. The photograph is included on page 12 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
