Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Hemi Te Waka, scout for the Imperial Forces, killed at Ahikereru pa in the Urewera on 7 May 1869 while pursuing Te Kooti's forces. Te Waka is pictured standing holding a rifle in both hands. He is wearing trousers, a shirt and a waistcoat. An unidentified object is visible at his feet on the right of the image. The photograph is included on page 12 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
