Description
To the left of the factory there are two horse-drawn carriages filled with cylindrical tanks. These are the whey tanks between the main factory and the river where farmers with pigs collected their entitlement of whey to take home. Steel storage tanks were later installed on top to store larger volumes of whey as production increased - these were in use right up until the factory’s closure in the early 1970s. There is a man standing in each of the carriages and the man closest to the front has been identified as Thomas Day.

I recall picking up whey with my father (a nearby sharemilker), when I was about 9 years old
