Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Captain George Augustus Preece, winner of the New Zealand Cross. Preece was awarded the Cross for bravery during the siege of Ngatapa pā, near Gisborne, from December 1868 - January 1869. The photograph is a bust portrait of Preece and shows him wearing a suit. He has a long beard. He is looking away from the camera. The photograph is included on page 10 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
