Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Assistant Surgeon Samuel Walker, Armed Constabulary and recipient of the New Zealand Cross. Walker was awarded the New Zealand Cross for gallantry during the period of 1868-69, and particularly for actions during the battle at Otauto, near Patea, on 13 March 1869. The photograph is a bust portrait and shows Walker dressed in military uniform. One arm is resting on a small table and he holds a cane in one hand. The photograph is included on page 9 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
