Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Miss Sarah Gilfillan, a survivor of the Gilfillan massacre, which took place on 18 April 1847 at Matarawa, near Whanganui. She was 6 years old at the time and was unharmed in the attack. The photograph is a bust portrait and shows Sarah Gilfillan dressed in a dress and jacket. She has a cameo brooch/necklace at her throat. Her hair is tied up on her head. The photograph is included on page 8 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
