Copy photograph of a hand tinted studio portrait of Captain Gilbert Mair from the New Zealand Militia. Mair was a winner of the New Zealand Cross. The photograph is a bust portrait. Mair is wearing a jacket with a corsage of flowers pinned to a lapel and has a long beard. His face is tinted pink, his eyes are tinted blue, and the corsage is tinted purple and green.The photograph is included on page 8 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
