Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Captain Frederick James Ross, killed at Turuturu Mōkai pā, near Hāwera, Taranaki, on 12 July 1868. The photograph is a bust portrait and shows Ross in profile wearing a suit. The photograph is oval and is surrounded by a decorative wreath. The photograph is included on page 7 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
