Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Major Gustavus Ferdinand von Tempsky of the Forest Rangers, who was killed at Te Ngutu-o-te-Manu on 7 September 1868. He is seated in profile and is wearing military uniform. One arm is leaning against a small table and he holds an object, possibly a sword or stick, in one hand. The photograph is included on page 6 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
