This medal was found in the garden at the rear of the vicarage on Henui Street, New Plymouth, in 1953. According to the Taranaki Herald correspondent writing on 8 December 1881 this prize was awarded for 3 pounds of fresh butter. The butter was the only entry in the class but was judged to be of "excellent quality" and worthy of a prize.
