Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Sub-Inspector D. M. Brown, who was killed during the siege of Ngatapa pa, near Gisborne, in January 1869. Brown is standing next to a pedestal and holds some sort of stick in both hands. He is dressed in full military uniform. A studio backdrop is visible in the background. The photograph is included on page 4 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
