Carkeek is dressed in a shirt and Maori fibre skirt and is wearing a military cap. He has a knife tucked into his belt and is leaning on a rifle with one hand. The other hand is on his hip. The photograph is included on page 3 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
