Description
The North Taranaki Council of Social Services was set up in 1981 to support and synthesize the social service industry to make social services in North Taranaki more effective. The council was elected annually from over sixty groups involved in welfare work throughout North Taranaki. The main focus of the Council was to initiate projects of need in the community, help those working in social services to get in touch with existing resources and commissioning research into fields of concern. The council worked closely with the Minister of Social Welfare and the national bodies of welfare agencies as well as working closely with the New Plymouth City council in a consultive capacity.
