Description
A New Zealand Medal. The silver medal features a left facing profile of Queen Victoria on the obverse. " VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F.D " is marked around the edge of the profile. A wreath is featured on the reverse with " NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR " marked around the edge of it. "217 DR. JOHN MYNOTT, 43RD. REGT." is marked on the edge of the medal. The medal is attached to a blue ribbon with a central red stripe by a straight suspension bar ornamented with fern leaf designs.

This medal was issued to John Mynott. Mynott was a bugler with the regiment, so it is thought that the " DR " on the inscription may refer to him being a drummer, rather than a doctor, as he was a prominent figure in the New Plymouth retailing and dairying scene, but was not a doctor.
