After more research I would like to correct a few points from the posting below: - the small farm owned by the family was in Waiau, north Canterbury - ECB is buried in the Hororata Cemetery, in the grounds of St John’s Church, Hororata.

Eugene Charles Buckley was my great grandfather. He sailed to NZ in 1871, aged 15 and working his passage. He was a talented artist and very good at rifle shooting; the family has a trophy won in a Canterbury competition. He and his wife Phoebe had three children - William (Bill), Stirling )my grandfather) and Elizabeth (Betty). For much of his life ECB was away from home as he rode and delivered horses around NZ. We have many postcards he sent to his children over that time. They had a small farm at Wairau, North Canterbury, which eventually became uneconomic and the family walked off it. ECB is buried at St Johns Church in Wairau.
