Description
A bronze and wood cheese stamp. The stamp has a wooden upper block with a U shaped metal handle screwed to the top. " NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE / N.Z. CHEDDAR / CHEESE / NEWALL / REGD No: 86 " is marked in reversed, raised lettering on the bronze plate mounted on the underside. A small wire loop for hanging is attached onto the wooden block.

Cheese stamps were used to mark cheese for export, to note the name and location of where the cheese was made, as well as what type of cheese it was. Most dairy factories made cheese and butter along with processing milk. This particular cheese stamp was used for marking cheddar cheese in Newall, South Taranaki.
